Five Signs You Might Make a Good Church Planter

This blog is devoted to something I have observed over many years of ministry to potential and active church planters. I'm sure there are many more but I'll start the conversation by listing five signs you might make a good church planter.

This blog is devoted to something I have observed over many years of ministry to potential and active church planters. I'm sure there are many more but I'll start the conversation by listing five signs you might make a good church planter.

1. You believe that God has called you to make disciples of Jesus and you have the conviction that you must do this using your spiritual gifts and passion. I say this because, for most people, church planting has been proven to be the best platform or means for evangelism and discipleship. New churches are the nets that fishers of men use to expand God's Kingdom.

2. Over time and personal experience, God has been stretching and using your faith to serve as a strong foundation of ministry expansion. And, you do not give up easily. Faith and prayer go together in ministry, and they are evident in whatever you do.

3. You are a gatherer of people, and you use a God-given vision to do that. Other believers see that ability in you as you faithfully serve the Lord, even in the small things. There is just something about you that urges people to want to work with you as you do God's work.

4. God has given you a vision for reaching people who your church or ministry is not now reaching with the gospel. Call it a holy dissatisfaction or a restless spirit for reaching more people in a new place or people group. Whatever you call it, you just can't shake it until you begin to do something about it.

5. You grow and multiply ministry. The status quo or maintenance of ministry does not interest you – growth and multiplication do, BIG TIME! Underneath this is the dual motivation of the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:34-40). In your heart and soul, you feel you must be obedient to those two big ones from God.

If these five describe your experience, I would love to chat with you about church planting with Converge Northwest. Contact me through this website or e-mail me at coachcharlie@coachandequip.org.

I'm sure you can add to this starter list of five, so what have you seen in good church planters?
