There are many things I wish I had known about being a pastor before I became one and the list could go on and on, but the following are some of the most important.
- Developing and maintaining your character and walk with God is more important than doing ministry.
- Developing church leaders is one of the most important ministries of a pastor.
- The church may have four or five different generations in it, so learn how to best minister and serve each one.
- Your church will require different leadership skills as it grows or declines, so know where your church is on its lifecycle and lead it accordingly.
- The lead pastor of a church is not superman, so donâÐÐt try to be one.
- As you minister to your church, make disciples who make disciples.
- You must be yourself âÐ" God made you the way you are for a reason.
- Make it a practice to hang out with and listen to other pastors who love and serve Jesus.
- Find and use a coach and a mentor.
- Every church has a culture based on its unique DNA, so find out what it is because it can and will determine everything your church does.
