Pastor Search

Whenever a Lead Pastor resigns or leaves a ministry, the church enters a season of transition that usually requires searching for and finding a new Pastor for the congregation. Many churches choose the DIY or "Do it Yourself" method for finding a new church leader. Some churches, usually larger, multi-staff congregations, even have a healthy succession plan in place to guide the church through this season of transition of pastoral leadership. Wise congregations decide to use an Intentional Interim Pastor for this important task.

An intentional Interim Pastor is someone who is gifted and trained for helping a church prepare for and go through an intentional process of church renewal to help prepare the congregation for the new pastor.

A typical pastor search in an existing church may take 6 to 24 months. 12 – 18 months is the norm for beginning the pastor search process and ending with the calling and installation of the new pastor.

Coach and Equip Ministries recommends a seven-stage process for pastor search. This process works best when the church forms a knowledgeable, spiritually qualified Pastor Search Team (PST) that meets weekly, exercises much prayer with much study and preparation by the entire congregation and its leadership and an outside coach or facilitator.

Lead Coach Charlie Worley has extensive experience in coaching and equipping churches before and during the pastor search process.
